Faster Refrigerant Recovery with MT69 Sub Cooler

How the CPS Pro-Set® MT69 helped improve efficiency on a large-scale upgrade

With warmer weather coming, and rising bottle temperatures sure to slow things down, HVAC/R technicians are looking for ways to stay efficient on site.

When a major fruit-producing facility required an urgent refrigeration system upgrade ahead of rising seasonal temperatures, experienced HVAC/R contractor Danston Ltd was tasked with delivering the project within a tight timeframe.

A key part of the work involved recovering refrigerant from existing systems prior to replacement. However, previous projects of a similar nature had highlighted a common challenge: slow recovery speeds caused by rising recovery cylinder temperatures and refrigerant remaining in low-level evaporator coils.

With large volumes of produce depending on reliable cooling, improving recovery efficiency became a priority.

Introducing the CPS Pro-Set® MT69 Molecular Transformator Sub Cooler

Following discussions with CPS Products’ UK distribution partner, Evomart Ltd, at a trade event, Danston Ltd was introduced to the CPS Pro-Set® MT69 Molecular Transformator Sub Cooler.

Designed to operate as a submersible condenser or evaporator, the MT69 uses patent-pending technology to rapidly convert refrigerant vapour into liquid. This process supports faster, more efficient recovery, helping technicians save valuable time on site.

Key advantages include the ability to significantly enhance refrigerant recovery speed, helping technicians complete jobs faster and more efficiently. The unit is compatible with all major recovery equipment, making it easy to integrate into existing setups without added complexity. Its compact, rugged design is built to withstand demanding site conditions, while the maintenance-free construction ensures reliable performance without additional downtime or servicing requirements.

Benchmark Recovery Performance

To evaluate performance, Danston Ltd compared a standard recovery process against one using the MT69.

In the benchmark test, 9 kg of R448A refrigerant was recovered using a conventional setup, with the system connected to gauges, the recovery unit, and a recovery cylinder placed on scales. Hoses were purged prior to operation, and the recovery process was run continuously until the recovery unit reached vacuum cut-out.

Total unaided recovery time: 2.9 hours (173 minutes).

MT69-Assisted Recovery Test

Using the same system conditions and refrigerant volume, the recovery process was repeated—this time incorporating the CPS Pro-Set® MT69. The unit was first evacuated and prepared before being integrated between the recovery unit and cylinder, then submerged in a water bath at approximately 12°C to support efficient operation. Recovery was carried out as normal until system pull-down, after which the remaining refrigerant was recovered from the MT69 itself.

The MT69 enhanced setup reduced total recovery time to just 1.8 hours (107 minutes).

Measurable Performance Gains

The inclusion of the MT69 reduced total recovery time by approximately 38% compared to the benchmark process.

It’s a significant improvement.

Importantly, this gain was achieved with minimal additional setup time—only around 10 minutes—making it a practical solution for both routine and large-scale recovery tasks.

Scalable Time Savings on Larger Projects

For larger recovery volumes (50–120 kg), the time savings become even more significant. For contractors like Danston Ltd, this translates into faster project completion, improved resource efficiency and a greater ability to meet tight deadlines.

In time-sensitive environments, such as food production, these efficiencies can make a critical difference.

Supporting Efficient, Reliable Recovery

This case study highlights how the CPS Pro-Set® MT69 Molecular Transformator Sub Cooler can support HVAC/R professionals in improving recovery performance without adding complexity.
By accelerating the conversion of refrigerant vapour to liquid, the MT69 helps reduce bottlenecks commonly experienced during recovery—particularly in challenging system conditions.

For HVAC/R technicians and contractors working on demanding installations, time and efficiency are key.

The CPS Pro-Set® MT69 offers a practical way to enhance refrigerant recovery speed, helping teams stay on schedule even in summer temperatures and warmer climates.

With thanks to Evomart Ltd and Danston Ltd for sharing their experience and performance data, which forms the basis of this case study.
